Publication
About Flavor Chemistry
A publication about flavor trends and food and beverage formulation, written for the people who have to make the product.
A different subject every time you load the page — sparkling water, coffee, a chili, a gummy bear, a shaker, a flask. Things our readers actually formulate, drawn honestly. There are no invented molecules anywhere on this site.
Who this is for
Food scientists, product developers, beverage developers, R&D teams, founders, co-packers and contract manufacturers — anyone whose job includes deciding what a product will taste like and then making that happen at scale.
It is not written for consumers. There are no recipes, no taste tests and no rankings. Where we cover a trend, the piece is about what the trend demands of a formulation, not about whether it is delicious.
What we publish
- Flavor trends, assessed for commercial adoption rather than for novelty.
- Application hubs covering the constraints that define each category.
- Flavor profiles with the technical detail a specification needs.
- Formulation solutions for specific, active problems.
- Research with stated methodology.
How we write
Every page states its answer in the first sentence, before any context. Every page answers one question. Numbers are given with the conditions they apply under, and a figure that is a manufacturer specification rather than a measurement is labeled as one. Where we do not have data, the page says so rather than reaching for a plausible number.
How this is funded
Flavor Chemistry is owned and funded by Brookside Flavors, a commercial flavor manufacturer. Commercial links are labeled as sponsored and editorial decisions are made independently of them. The full disclosure explains the arrangement and its limits, and the editorial standards page sets out the rules we hold ourselves to.
