Fastest-Growing Beverage Flavor Profiles

A research format for tracking which profiles are gaining launch share across beverage subcategories.

By Priya Raman, Product Developer1 min read

Which beverage flavors are growing fastest?

This report tracks what share of new drink launches each flavor accounts for, quarter by quarter — so you can see what is rising, not just what is already big.

Demonstration data

The figures in this report are structural placeholders, not measurements. The methodology and data model are real and describe how the report will be produced; the numbers are marked as pending until the tracking is populated.

What this measures

New product launches, not sales.

A flavor can be small today and appear in a rising share of new products, and if you are deciding what to develop next, that second number is more useful.

Sales data tells you what worked two years ago. Launch data tells you what a lot of development teams independently decided was worth betting on.

How it is counted

Every new product in each tracked drinks category is tagged with its main flavor, counted per quarter. The share is worked out within each category, so a category that launches a lot of products does not swamp the rest.

New flavors of an existing product count. New pack sizes of an existing flavor do not. Anything appearing fewer than five times in a quarter gets grouped as "other", so we are not reading noise as a signal.

How to read it once there is data in it

Two columns matter more than the headline share.

The change since last quarter — direction beats size.

The number of different brands, not products. A flavor growing because one company launched six versions is a company strategy. A flavor growing because twelve companies launched one each is a trend.

Methodology

Launch-share analysis across tracked beverage subcategories, counting distinct new SKUs by characterizing flavor profile per quarter. Share is calculated within subcategory to control for differing launch volumes. Profiles appearing in fewer than five launches in a quarter are grouped as long tail.
